Why does the story of Larissa marrying Ian even after his traumatic brain injury touch us so deeply?

  • It reflects God’s unconditional love.
  • It touches the part of our heart where we deeply desire to really be loved and accepted no matter what.

What impact does our faithfulness have on the world?

  • “Every soul that rises above itself raises the world.”
  • It is a living sign that inspires hope and faithfulness in others.
  • Faithfulness, contracts, and agreements that are followed through with, especially marriage, become the bedrock of a stable and fruitful society.
  • “Each believer is a link in the great chain of believers. I cannot believe without being carried by the faith of others, and by my faith I help support others in the faith.” -ccc166

What impact does sacrificing for faithfulness have on us?

  • It purifies us. It teaches us to love.
  • St. Maximilian Kolbe said “Love lives and is nourished by sacrifices…there is no love without sacrifice.” (SK 503)
  • It gives us an opportunity to be daring in our love and trust of God.
  • Our Lord told St Faustina how lack of love and faithfulness hurts Him so deeply, “so many reservations, so much distrust, so much caution!” -Sec 367

What do we cling to when we are struggling to be faithful?

  • St Paul tells us, “Time is short.” So, the good news is that this trial shall pass, and eternity is forever.
  • “The more powerless and hopeless a soul feels, the greater the grace God has in store for it.” – Dr. Anthony Lilles
  • Divorces statistics: 5 years later, those who struggled through marriage difficulties report much greater happiness than those who divorced.
  • Don’t divorce your kids! They and your spouse are God’s plan to teach you to love. They are your path to holiness and eternal happiness!
  • “The seed that fell on rich’s soil, they are the ones who, when they have heard the word, embrace it with a generous and good heart, and bear fruit through perseverance.” -Lk 8:15
  • St Peter of Alcantara, spiritual director of St Teresa of Avila appeared after his death and proclaimed: “It was all worth it! All the trials, the sufferings, the difficulties!”
  • Rich soil is created by lots of fertilizer, lots of manure which makes the soil abundantly fruitful. Stuff happens. So, let that ‘stuff’ enrich your life by embracing the cross and gaining the graces God has in store for you through it.
  • We must cling to daily mental/meditative prayer and the Sacraments! God’s grace IS SUFFICIENT!
  • Saint John of the Cross said: “Where there is no love, put love, and you will draw out love.”
