Frodo was entrusted with destroying the ring, which is similar to Christ breaking the chains of sin. However, look deeper to see that we all are like Frodo as we carry the consequences of origin sin and set out on our mission to destroy sin in our lives. Think about how Christ helps us do that and how Samwise is a type of Christ! Click over to the full Family Conquest. The “To Do” activity in the Wrapping It Up section asks families to share with each other some stories about how God has been loyal to them or to others.

Spiritual Nuggets for Family Discussion
Open with a prayer.
(i.e. a Glory Be, or Our Father, or Hail Mary, or ‘Jesus, Mary, Joseph, we love You! Save souls!’)
- He started to drown.
- Frodo pulled him into the boat.
- He had made a promise to accompany Frodo all the way to Mordor.
- He was going to keep his promise no matter what.
- God will never leave us, even if we try to leave Him.
- God is willing to sacrifice His very life to protect us.
- Through the Eucharist especially, God stays near us and literally gives us His life.
- When Frodo can’t go on, Sam carries him up Mount Doom.
- Just like Sam accompanied Frodo to Mordor to destroy the ring, Jesus accompanies us as we bear the consequences of sin. Christ directs us to where we can destroy our sins… in Baptism and Confession.
