It seems like a raw deal. We desire to behold physical beauty and be beautiful. Yet, it passes so quickly! Look deeper to see what God is actually doing for us as we suffer the loss of physical beauty in ourselves and others. Click over to the full Family Conquest. The “To Do” activity in the Wrapping It Up section asks families to share with each other some stories about being surprised or disappointed by seeing physical beauty fade. (Perhaps in a person, in a pet, in nature, etc.)

Spiritual Nuggets for Family Discussion

Open with a prayer.
(i.e. a Glory Be, or Our Father, or Hail Mary, or ‘Jesus, Mary, Joseph, we love You! Save souls!’)

Were you surprised at the transformation in this lady's appearance?

  • Answers vary.
  • Her appearance changed a lot with makeup and was changed further by the computer.

How do you think the way people look in pictures and movies impacts our perception of physical beauty?

  • Our expectations of physical beauty for ourselves and for others become unrealistic and unattainable.
  • We can then believe we are unattractive or ugly since we don’t look like those enhanced images of others.

Why do you think God made us to be attracted to physical beauty when it can change, disappear, or be 'faked'?

  • Physical beauty is a good thing made by God. He wants us to be attracted to good things.
  • However, God uses our disappointment about the changeability of physical beauty to draw us to discover the deeper beauty that isn’t fake – the beauty that won’t disappoint us.

Close with a prayer.

Feed that Fire!

The FREE Family Conquest program helps parents “Feed that Fire today… before it’s too late!”

  • What Fire? The love of God and of family.
  • Too Late? 13 is the average age a child rejects the Faith and his family in his heart! By age 22, that decision shows itself. Today, 85% of Catholic kids leave the Faith!
  • Why This Works? WATCHING together Viral YouTube videos and BONDING together through the faith Q&A’s is fun and effective. It also helps parents and kids learn God’s language of parable, so they can discern God speaking in their prayer!
