It seems like a raw deal. We desire to behold physical beauty and be beautiful. Yet, it passes so quickly! Look deeper to see what God is actually doing for us as we suffer the loss of physical beauty in ourselves and others. Click over to the full Family Conquest. The “To Do” activity in the Wrapping It Up section asks families to share with each other some stories about being surprised or disappointed by seeing physical beauty fade. (Perhaps in a person, in a pet, in nature, etc.)
Spiritual Nuggets for Family Discussion
Open with a prayer.
(i.e. a Glory Be, or Our Father, or Hail Mary, or ‘Jesus, Mary, Joseph, we love You! Save souls!’)
- Answers vary.
- Her appearance changed a lot with makeup and was changed further by the computer.
- Our expectations of physical beauty for ourselves and for others become unrealistic and unattainable.
- We can then believe we are unattractive or ugly since we don’t look like those enhanced images of others.
- Physical beauty is a good thing made by God. He wants us to be attracted to good things.
- However, God uses our disappointment about the changeability of physical beauty to draw us to discover the deeper beauty that isn’t fake – the beauty that won’t disappoint us.
