Listen to the Voice
Why was the man who flew the plane able to immediately recognize the voice of the air traffic controller who came to his hotel room?
- Because he had been listening intently to that man’s voice during the ordeal.
- He had placed his complete trust in the words he heard from that voice.
Why is it hard for us to trust that God is speaking to us in our prayer?
- We can’t hear Him with our ears.
- It’s hard to know for sure whether it is God speaking to us, or if we are just thinking.
What can we do to get to know God's voice during our prayer?
- St Isidore of Seville said, “If a man wants to be always in God’s company, he must pray regularly and read regularly. When we pray, we talk to God; when we read (Scripture & holy books), God talks to us.”
- We need to ask God to help us to distinguish which thoughts in our head are ours and which ones come from Him.
- When we read scripture and spiritual books, we start to more easily recognize what God says and how He says it.
